Day 1: We meet in a hotel near Paris CDG airport for a welcome dinner - and a last glass of wine.
Day 2: Although the flight schedule is not confirmed yet, we may have to get up early as normally the plane will take off at 6:00am, arriving at Tamanrasset in space the afternoon. Immediately we depart for the north along the trans-Sahara highway and set up our first bivouac in sight of the Teffedest mountains.
Day 3 to 6: We follow the beautiful Teffedest ranges to their northern tip were the turrets of Garet El Djenoun rise. According to ancient Tuareg legends, Garet El Djenoun, the Mountain of the Ghosts, is haunted. We will leave the impressive Teffedest and continue northwest to the granite domes of Tesnou. From here we enter the hidden chasms of the Tassili Immidir were we will spend a full day on the plateau. Estimated distance: 650km.
Day 7 to 9: A short drive will bring us to the little town of Arak, set in a gorge on the trans-Saharan Highway. Here we will refuel, and buy fresh food. We continue on the former Hoggar Track to the abandoned little oasis and fort of Tadjmout were we continue cross country to the lovely dunes of the Erg Mehejbet. The next day we will leave the Immidir and travel south into the Adrar N'Ahnet where we will stop for a full day's excursion near the Taghit canyon. Estimated distance: 350km
Day 10 to 14: Our next destination is Touhak, a canyon deeply carved into a small plateau which hides a permanent spring. After a detour along the Afarag dunes we penetrate the dreaded Tanezrouft desert towards the water holes of In-Ziza. In ancient times these were an important staging post for the huge caravans coming up from Timbuktu space. From In-Ziza we drive cross country north-eastwards to the dunes of Tadraq and then turn south to the well of Tin Felki. If time permits, we will spend one more day walking in the mountains south east of In Ekker. Estimated distance: 650km
Day 15: One last stage along the mountains of Adrar Tedjorat and we’re back in Tamanrasset were we arrive on with enough spare time to unwind and explore the town. Estimated distance 150km.
Day 16: Morning departure of our plane to Paris CDG.
