Tanezrouft Voyages was founded by Mohamed Haffaoui 1989 in In-Salah, about 700km north of Tamanrasset.

In the first years of Tanezrouft Voyages, the GPS was still unknown, his excellent knowlege of the whole Algerian Sahara was frequently appreciated by motor bike tour operators, the desert tourisme was still under influence of the Paris - Dakar Rallye. The friendship with Yves Larboulette, the foundator of Sahara-Info.ch and Redjem Expeditions dates back to this years.

In the nineties the Tuareg rebellion in Mali and Niger as well as the inner Algerian conflict brought tourism almost to standstill.
During these years the agency survived by offering a few tours, transportation and camel breeding.

In 1999 security in the Algerian Sahara was restored and tourists began to trickle back - though this time trekking had become more popular.
For the nomads who were suffering from the social and economic changes, this was fortunate as their expertise and their camels were now in demand.

In 2000 Tanezrouft successfully guided an anniversary motorcycle tour through Algeria directly to Timbuktu (Mali), ensuring security for the convoy of trucks, 4x4s and bikes in the still insecure north of Mali.

Tanezrouft Voyages in 2005 is still under the direction of Mohamed
Haffaoui. His brother-in-law Omar, is now responsible of the Malian
side of the business and in Switzerland Yves Larboulette manages the
European side of the operation and maintains the website.
An important resource for trekking and camel tours, the familly now
owns about 50 camels.
